September

  • Contact the college/university in which you are interested for an information packet and schedule a Campus Tour.

  • Review the college/university website for information on future students.

  • Research available majors by checking out the Academic Departments.

  • Review admission requirements, deadlines, etc. If you need help, call the college/university Admissions office with any questions

  • Review Texas Success Initiative (TSI) information to determine if you meet exemptions or need to test (THEA, ASSET, COMPASS or ACCUPLACER) or call 254-968-9269. TSI is required for attending any public university in Texas.

TSI Exemptions

  • There are certain conditions that may exempt students from requirements of the TSI law.
    1. Students performing at or above the following levels are exempt

    • ACT: Composite score of 23 or higher with a minimum of 19 on the English Test and a minimum of 19 on the mathematics test, shall be exempt for those corresponding sections. A student may be
      partially exempt if the student has a composite score of 23 or higher with a minimum of 19 on the English test and/or a minimum of 29 on the mathematics test. Scores must be no more than five years old.

    • SAT: Combined verbal and mathematics score of 1070 with a minimum of 500 on the verbal test and the mathematics test, shall be exempt for those corresponding sections. A student may be partially exempt if the student has a combined verbal and mathematics score of 1070 with a minimum of 500 on the verbal test and/or a minimum of 500 on the mathematics test. Scores must be no more than five years old.

    • Pass the ACCUPLACER test with the following scores:

      • Reading – 351+

      • Writing – Essay only – 5+ or Multiple Choice of 363+ and essay of 4+

      • Math- 350+


October

  • Continue requesting letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors or mentors for use in your Scholarship Application.

  • Begin completing and/or submitting Scholarship applications. Contact the Scholarship office at your school of choice for more information.

  • Begin researching outside (independent, corporate, private) scholarship opportunities.

  • Take or retake the SAT or ACT to improve scores for admission or for scholarship eligibility.

  • Apply for housing after you have applied for admissions. Contact the housing department at the college for more information.

October/November

  • Research majors at the college of your choice so you can begin scheduling which courses to register for.

January

  • Obtain a PIN number through FAFSA: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/before004.htm

  • Begin collecting financial tax information and complete the FAFSA form – http://www.fafsa.ed/gov .

  • Check the scholarship link on the website of your college and check for deadlines. Contact the scholarship office for more information.

February

  • Check the scholarship link on the website of your college and check for deadlines. Contact the scholarship office for more information.

March/April

  • Fill out local scholarships through your high school.

May

  • Congratulations on your Graduation!!!!

June/July/August

  • Send final high school transcript for academic record.

  • Send final college transcript(s) for course credit. Contact Transfer Services for questions on transferability of courses.

  • Attend a freshman orientation at your college.

  • Check out the course schedule so you will know which courses you want to register for.

  • After you enroll, take your enrollment papers to the people who awarded you a scholarship so your scholarship money will be sent to your college.
